Munich Workshop on Behavior and Terrorism

Date: December 14/15, 2017

The Munich Workshop on Behavior and Terrorism invites researchers from all disciplines to submit papers that offer insight into topics of behavior related to terrorism. Understanding and modeling the behavior of all involved parties lets us develop better strategies in dealing with the threat of terrorism as a society. This is not limited to military interventions but comprises all related issues such as prevention policies or how to deal with terrorists after conflicts.

Submitted papers can have a descriptive or prescriptive focus, whereas the unit of analysis can range from individual terrorists to entire terrorist organizations or cover the behavior of individuals, governments and societies as a reaction to the threat of terrorism or specific terrorist attacks. Topics can include modeling terrorist-counterterrorist interactions, descriptions of terrorists’ behavior, reactions to and consequences of terrorism, risk analysis, terrorism prevention and risk management solutions. We are open to all methodological approaches. Qualitative studies are equally welcome as mathematical modeling approaches or empirical analyses.

The workshop will be hosted by the Munich Risk and Insurance Center at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität (LMU) in Munich, Germany and organized by Johannes Jaspersen and Andreas Richter. The preliminary schedule has Efraim Benmelech (Northwestern University) and Edward Kaplan (Yale University) giving keynote lectures.

Submissions of abstracts and full papers are welcome. To access the call for papers, please click here.
